What a caps converter does
“Caps” is short for capital letters. A caps converter changes which letters in your text are capitals without changing the words. It works in both directions:
- Caps on: turn normal text into ALL CAPS for a heading, label or form.
- Caps off: turn text typed in capitals back into readable writing.

Fixing caps lock mistakes
The most common reason people look for a caps converter is a paragraph typed with caps lock on. There are two versions of the problem.
Everything is in capitals. Press Sentence case. You get normal sentences back, with a capital at the start of each one and the pronoun “I” kept as a capital.
The capitals are reversed. If you were pressing Shift at the start of sentences as usual, caps lock turned those letters small and everything else big: “tHE MEETING IS AT NINE.” Press iNVERSE cASE to flip every letter back.
After either fix, check names and acronyms. A converter cannot know that “john” is a person or that “nasa” should be in capitals.
When to use all caps
Capitals draw the eye, so they work for short pieces of text: a button label, a warning, a heading on a slide. They work poorly for long text because every capital letter is the same height and words lose their shape, which slows reading.
If you want a similar feel that is easier to read, try title case for headings and keep body text in sentence case.
More than caps
The same box gives you 13 styles, including title case, alternating case and code styles such as snake_case. Your text stays in the box when you switch between tools on this site.
