What invisible text is
Unicode, the standard that defines every character your devices can show, includes a handful of characters that are deliberately blank. Some were made for typesetting, such as wide spaces. Others are fillers used in specific writing systems. All of them count as real characters even though you cannot see them.
That gap between “looks empty” and “is not empty” is what makes them useful. An app that refuses an empty name or an empty message will often accept one of these characters.
How to use the generator
- Pick a character. The default, Hangul Filler, works in the most places.
- Set how many you want. One is enough for a blank name.
- Press Copy invisible text.
- Paste it into the app, game or form.
Not sure it copied? Paste into the test box first. It tells you how many invisible characters it found.
Which character should you choose?
| Character | Code | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Hangul Filler | U+3164 | Game names, usernames, chat messages |
| Braille Blank | U+2800 | Instagram bios and captions, line spacing |
| Zero Width Space | U+200B | Hidden breaks inside words, no visible width |
| Zero Width Joiner | U+200D | Places where the zero width space is removed |
| No-Break Space | U+00A0 | Spaces that must not collapse or wrap |
| Em Space | U+2003 | A wide visible gap between words |
The first two take up space on screen, about the width of a letter. The zero width characters take up no space at all, which matters if you want a name that looks truly empty rather than like a gap.
What people use it for
- Blank names in games and chat apps that do not allow an empty name field
- Empty messages on WhatsApp, Discord, Telegram and iMessage
- Spacing in bios on Instagram and TikTok, where normal line breaks and repeated spaces are removed
- Blank folder or file names on a phone or computer
- Centering or indenting text in places with no formatting options
- Testing: checking how your own form or app handles input that looks empty
If it does not work
Platforms decide for themselves which characters to allow, and they change those rules without notice. If your paste is rejected or shows up as a small box:
- Try another character from the list.
- Use a single character before trying several.
- On some apps, add the blank character between two normal characters, then delete the normal ones.
A small box or question mark means the app’s font has no entry for that character. Braille Blank and Hangul Filler have the widest font support.
A note for developers
If you are here because users are submitting blank names to your product, trimming normal whitespace is not enough. Check input for these code points as well, or validate that a name contains at least one visible letter or number.
