What gothic text is
Blackletter is the family of scripts that scribes in Germany, England and other parts of Europe used for centuries. The letters are tall and narrow, with sharp broken curves and thick vertical strokes. Many people call it Old English, gothic or Fraktur, which is the name of the German form.
Today the style signals tradition or menace, depending on where you see it. It sits on newspaper mastheads and diplomas, and it is just as much at home on heavy metal album covers, streetwear and gaming clans.
This gothic font generator gives you that look as text you can copy, not as an image.
How to use the gothic font generator
- Type a name, word or phrase into the Your text box. Use Clear to start over.
- Read the three large results at the top: Gothic, Bold Gothic and Crown, which wraps Bold Gothic between two crown symbols.
- Press Copy next to the version you like.
- Paste it into your profile, game, message or design draft.
Under the main results is More styles, a long list of the site’s other styles with a Copy button on each row. Gothic pairs well with small caps or a plain line for a subtitle.
How it works
Mathematicians use Fraktur letters as symbols, for example for certain algebraic structures, so Unicode includes a full Fraktur alphabet in its Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block. The regular Fraktur capital A sits at U+1D504, and the bold set starts at U+1D56C.
The regular set has five holes. The capitals C, H, I, R and Z already existed in the older Letterlike Symbols block as ℭ, ℌ, ℑ, ℜ and ℨ, so the maths block skips them. The generator fills those slots with the older characters, which is why a word like “Crazy” begins with a letter from a different part of Unicode. Bold Gothic has no holes; every letter comes from the maths block.
Only the 52 Latin letters change. Accented letters, numbers and symbols are left alone, because Unicode has no Fraktur version of them.

Where gothic letters look right
- Gamer tags and clan names in games and on Discord, where a sharp blackletter name stands out in a list
- Instagram and TikTok bios with a dark or vintage theme
- Band, label and playlist names
- Mock certificates, invitations and menus in plain text drafts
- Tattoo and lettering ideas, to preview a phrase before you take it to an artist

Tips and limits
Readability drops fast. Blackletter was designed for a different age of reading. Some capitals are hard to tell apart, especially ℑ (I) and 𝔍 (J), and 𝔅 (B) and 𝔙 (V) at small sizes. Use gothic for a short name or a heading, not a paragraph.
Mix it with plain text. A gothic name followed by a normal sentence is easier on readers than a whole bio in blackletter.
Screen readers struggle. Many screen readers announce these as mathematical Fraktur letters, one by one, or skip them entirely. Do not rely on gothic text for anything a reader must understand.
Search will not find it. Search boxes look for ordinary letters. If friends need to find your profile by name, keep the plain spelling somewhere visible, such as the username.
Not every platform allows it. Some games and sites block characters outside the basic alphabet in usernames. If a name is rejected, try it in your bio or display name instead.
For tattoos, check with an artist. The shapes depend on the font on your screen, so the same text looks a little different on each device. Treat the generator as a preview, and let a lettering artist draw the final design.
