What vaporwave wide text is
Vaporwave began as an online music style in the early 2010s, mixing slowed-down pop, elevator music and the look of old computer software. Its album covers and posts used pastel gradients, Greek statues, palm trees and one very recognizable kind of lettering: text where every character is spread out in its own wide box, like vaporwave.
That lettering comes from full-width characters. This generator converts your text into them and offers a few classic variations, from all capitals to text framed in Japanese brackets.
How to use the generator
- Type into the Your text box. The wide styles at the top change as you type.
- Pick a style and press Copy next to it.
- Paste it into a post, a bio, a playlist title or a video description.
- Press Clear to start over. The More styles list further down has every other style on the site, each with its own Copy button.
The five wide styles
- Wide converts letters, digits and punctuation to full width and keeps your capitals as they are.
- Wide Capitals does the same but turns every letter into a capital, for a bolder, poster-like line.
- Wide Spaced adds a space between every wide letter and a bigger gap between words, the most stretched-out look.
- Lenticular Brackets wraps the wide text in 【 and 】, heavy brackets used in Japanese and Chinese writing for titles and labels.
- Corner Brackets wraps it in 『 and 』, the white corner brackets used in Japanese for quotes and titles.
| Style | Midnight Drive |
|---|---|
| Wide | Midnight Drive |
| Wide Capitals | MIDNIGHT DRIVE |
| Wide Spaced | M i d n i g h t D r i v e |
| Lenticular Brackets | 【Midnight Drive】 |
| Corner Brackets | 『Midnight Drive』 |
Numbers work too: 1999 becomes 1999, or 【1999】 with brackets.
How it works
Computers that handle Chinese, Japanese and Korean text often need Latin letters that fit the same square grid as the other characters. Unicode provides a full set of these in the Halfwidth and Fullwidth Forms block, from the exclamation mark up to the tilde.
The generator takes each character you type in that range and shifts it to its full-width twin. A capital A becomes A, a small a becomes a, a 1 becomes 1. The normal space is swapped for the ideographic space, which is as wide as one full-width letter, so the gaps between words match the letters. Characters outside that range, such as accented letters and emoji, stay as they are.
It all happens in your browser. Your text is not sent anywhere.
Ideas for using it
- Album, playlist and mixtape titles
- Instagram and TikTok bios with a retro or dreamy theme
- Captions for photos with neon, sunset or old-tech moods
- Usernames shown as display names on Discord and games
- Headings in a zine, a blog or a mood board
Pair it with small, quiet text around it. Wide text works best when it is the only loud thing on the line.
Tips and limits
- It takes double the space. Wide letters are about twice as wide as normal ones. Bio fields and display names fill up quickly, and Wide Spaced fills them faster still.
- Character counts may differ. Many apps count each wide letter as one character, but X (Twitter) weighs characters by type and counts full-width characters as two.
- Search will not find it. Full-width letters are different characters from normal ones, so a hashtag written in wide text will not link like a normal hashtag on most apps.
- Screen readers may read letter by letter. Some screen readers read wide text normally, while others spell it out or name each character. Keep important details in plain text.
- Turning it back. Paste wide text into the Unicode to text converter to get normal letters back.
